This section reports the Fundación projects in progress and its activities programme:
Spreading
In the Las Médulas Foundation we believe that the scientific and historic rigour must be a basic tool to improve the social appreciation of the cultural landscape; therefore, we develop every year didactic activities regarding the outreach of this World Heritage based on the results of the investigation projects carried out by the Spanish National Research Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC). To accomplish this in 2008, there will be several workshops either for students and professors of primary and secondary education. Besides, we will call once more the School Contest of Las Médulas Foundation: “Descrubre Las Médulas 2008” (“Discover Las Médulas 2008”). In addition, we will also publish the “Memoria de la Fundación Las Médulas” (a global report of the Foundation’s aims and activities).
Participation in national and international projects
Action COST Understanding pre-industrial structures in rural and mining landscapes (LANDMARKS). The principal objective of the Action is the identification and the evaluation of pre-industrial elements in the European landscape, threatened by the abandonment of traditional agricultural and mining activities. http://www.soc.staffs.ac.uk/jdw1/costa27home.html
Protecting and developing Las Médulas
In 2008, Las Médulas Foundation will keep carrying out actions related with the maintenance and enhance of the Archaeological Zone of Las Médulas; the aim of such actions is to improve the existing infrastructures in order to increase the understanding of the different aspects of the cultural landscape. This year, the information panels on the area of the “Mirador de Orellán” (a panoramic viewpoint over the Las Médulas gold mine) will be replaced and others will be created. On the other hand, it will be prepared a pedestrian crossing between the Los Conventos route and the village of Las Médulas.
